....As a kid growing up, it was in a small suburb called 'Waitangirua', which along with other surrounding suburbs in Porirua, Wellington...was still being developed by new housing, streets & roading etc...so at the time, it was still surrounded by un-touched rolling hills, with trees & small pockets of meadow, creeks & streams, pastures and paddocks of rural land, where farm animals like horses & sheep freely roamed about...
As a kid I used to play on vast open spaces with the tall grass on the hillsides & the smell of hot summers in the air as I walked along & through wild grass, while taking in the views of nature framing me, all around....oceans, beaches, sands, lakes, rocks, farmlands, cobbled stones, dirt tracks, bush tracks.....
...a place still peaceful enough to hear the bird songs, natural water, and the wind in leaves,...
Exploring creeks, & the sounds of streams flowing & bubbling on-wards, strolling through forests of trees & hearing the crunch of fallen leaves, under my childhood soles....
As a kid,...was Alive with curious wonder of the beauty of Nature, & the freedom it brought, growing up,.....often staying out for long hours, just exploring the beautiful landscape and open spaces....
Explains a lot about my Love of gardens, or 'zen-zones' all planned, created planted and lovingly cultivated over the many years....and where ever I went and lived, even in a small double-storey studio apartment inner-city, back in the '90s'...created a garden on the balcony, to day-dream in,...
or... the tiny suburban back yard planted with 4 awesome varieties of different luscious fruiting trees, matured enough for years now, to harvest from year-after-year...Beautiful,...
& the small landscaped walkway path, circling and flanked with plants trees & shrubs on either sides....with a tucked away corner 'zen-zone' patio,...
....& all the countless other nature-inspired dreams, projects and aspirations....
..... to this day, the love of Nature still remains & never left...
So no, I'm not a 'city-girl' playing at being 'country-stylez'....its just that being connected to Nature' has always been in me, right from the very beginning :)
